4th Annual Rugby League Challenge – The Rivalry Reignites!

By November 7, 2025 All News

There was a real buzz around the college as St Peter’s hosted the 4th Annual Rugby League Challenge, the biggest day on our sporting calendar. With our CSBB rivals MacKillop Catholic College, Warnervale NSW making the trip down the M1, the stage was set for an incredible day of rugby league action. After Mackillop claimed both major trophies last year, St Peter’s were determined to bring them home.

In the development matches, our juniors showed the true value of the RISE program, demonstrating strong skill, teamwork, and determination.
The U14 Boys kicked off the day in dominant fashion with a commanding 58–0 victory. Keaton J, Dylan M, Hamish D, and Jacob H all crossed for doubles, while Api H and Emmet L laid some bone-rattling tackles. Captain Jacob H was deservedly named Player of the Match, his relentless work through the middle setting the tone for the side.
The U14 Girls have shown enormous growth throughout the year, and their effort was rewarded with a 24–8 win. Led by captain Ruby B, the girls displayed grit and teamwork, turning a tight halftime contest into a convincing victory. Highlights included Elisha W’s sharp goal-kicking, strong ball movement from Willow S and Harper S, and a standout performance from Sophie M, whose big defensive plays and powerful runs earned her Player of the Match honours.
As the crowd built around McCudden Oval, anticipation grew for the Trophy Matches.
The U16 Girls, determined to redeem last year’s result, hit the field with intensity and class. They moved the ball with precision, showcasing their development and skill. Elysse H, Lani G, and Lily D created plenty of attacking opportunities, while the physicality of Ayden P and Layla H helped control the middle. Captain Morgan K led from the front and was awarded the Olivia Kernick Player of the Match, steering her team to an impressive 28–6 victory.
Finally, the U16 Boys—motivated by a year’s worth of preparation—produced one of the most complete performances ever seen from a St Peter’s side. Their 26–4 win was built on composure, shape, and a deep understanding of their game plan. Led superbly by Captain Chayse D and playmaker Noah P, the boys combined flair and discipline. The energetic hooker pairing of Ethan W and Isaac L tore the game open, middle forward Cohen K distributed the ball soundly, while hard-running edge Harper K was rewarded for his dominant performance with the Jack Cogger Medal.
A huge thank you to our local community for their ongoing support, to @gripstarsocks for providing Player of the Match prizes, and to the NRL for supplying officials and first aid.
The 4th Annual Rugby League Challenge once again showcased everything that makes St Peter’s sport special — pride, passion, and purpose. The trophies are home where they belong!
