Scholarships

Youth in Performing Arts

YIPA promotes and fosters the development of youth with outstanding talent through the support of adults with extensive experience in theatre and entertainment, including industry professionals.

Each year YIPA provides a number of Scholarships and Encouragement Awards to young people who perform in the YIPA concerts. These awards are to assist the performers in advancing their talent onstage. The Scholarships and Encouragement Awards comprise a variety of things including cash, music performance courses, recording studio time, dance and movement tuition, etc.

In 2017, 22 students (and 4 past students) of St Peter’s performed at Laycock Street Theatre in Youth in Performing Arts. As a result of their wonderful and professional performances two students received scholarships of:

$1,000 Youth in Performing Arts 

$500 Youth in Performing Arts

 

Vice Chancellor’s Scholarship for Academic Excellence

The St Peter’s Year 12 Dux receives a Vice Chancellor’s Scholarship valued at $2,000.

These scholarships were established in 1999 as part of the University of Newcastle Awards for Academic Excellence. The purpose of the scholarship is to support academically excellent Year 12 students who intend to enrol at the University of Newcastle in the year following their Higher School Certificate (HSC) studies.

St Peter’s Leadership Awards

Separately there are two Leadership awards valued at $550 for a Year 12 student and $250 for a Year 10 student.The ADF Long Tan Youth Leadership and Teamwork Awards recognise students who demonstrate leadership and teamwork within both the school and the broader local community. At the same time, they recognise those who display strong values, such as doing one’s best, respect for others and “mateship” characteristics that are integral to Australian society.

Catholic Woman’s League

A scholarship of $1,000 is offered each year by the Women’s Catholic League for both a Year 11 and Year 12 female student.  In Term 3, Year 10 students will be offered the opportunity to apply for the scholarship.
