Big Ideas and Bold Thinking at St Peter’s

Students at St Peter’s have had a powerful start to the year in the Broken Bay Cross-Campus Entrepreneurship program, engaging with expert guest speakers and discovering what it takes to think—and act—like an entrepreneur.

The first speaker, Matt Esterman, shared his journey from teacher to tech entrepreneur, offering students a glimpse into the world of startups and problem-solving. He spoke about the importance of listening and solving real problems, not just selling products. “You’re not selling a product,” he told students, “you’re selling what people feel when they use it.”

The second speaker, Nils Vesk, introduced creative strategies for generating ideas through SCAMPER and “idea sprints,” using real-world examples to demonstrate how small tweaks can make a big impact. One student said, “It opened up the possibilities—I can be independent and love what I do.”

Students were especially struck by the message that success comes from persistence and belief in your own ideas. As one St Peter’s student reflected, “The speakers made me feel like I can do anything I set my mind to,” while another shared, “The only limit to what you do is the limit you set yourself.”

From learning that “you have to put in the time to get your result,” to understanding how innovation can shape everyday life, students are walking away with real-world insights and motivation. One student summed it up: “It builds real life skills and helps you with innovation in your life.”

With continued guest sessions and coursework activities, St Peter’s students are building the confidence, creativity, and entrepreneurial mindset to turn ideas into action.
