We are very blessed here at St Peter’s to have our beloved furry friends Seamus and Freddie McVeigh on site most days, and our students have been lucky to be offered the opportunity to take part in some formal dog handling and obedience training. These one-hour sessions which have been funded personally by Miss McVeigh provide students with hands on experience in the management and safety of dogs in both a working and non-working capacity.
The handlers, helpers and walkers have been training with highly experienced trainer (and dog whisperer!) Ms Florczak, learning skills in gentle engagement, basic obedience, management of equipment and overall handling of animals’ temperament, commands and discipline.
It’s safe to say these sessions are one of the students’ favourite parts of their school week!
