2025 Battle of the Chefs!

St Peter’s recently hosted the annual Catholic Schools Broken Bay ‘Battle of the Chefs’ Competition in our magnificent Trade Training Centre kitchens. Students from Years 11 and 12 undertaking the Stage 6 NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) Vocational Education and Training (VET) course in Hospitality – Kitchen Operations and Cookery were invited to participate, with a team of three to represent each College. Brigidine College St Ives, MacKillop Catholic College, Warnervale NSW, Mater Maria Catholic College, St Brigid’s Catholic College, St Edward’s College, East Gosford, St Paul’s Catholic College, Manly, and our very own St Peter’s hospitality teams took part in this year’s competition presenting incredible dishes, showing their exemplary culinary skills and teamwork.

The competition kicked off with an ingredient reveal, and students were given just 60 minutes to plan and design their menu. They then had 3 hours of cooking time before serving their Mystery Box Challenge main course, followed by the set menu item.

After many hours of planning, preparation and practice, our senior students truly wowed the judges with their skills in cooking, plating, menu design, problem-solving, and teamwork. Their passion and professionalism stood out, and we couldn’t be prouder!

Congratulations to our amazing St Peter’s team who placed an impressive and well-deserved second place! A huge congratulations to the St Brigid’s team who took out both the Director’s Dish of the Day, and first place overall!! And to Mater Maria, coming in at third place.

A huge thank you to our incredible staff – Ms Moore, Mrs Gregory and Miss Crowther – for your preparation and organisation for this huge event, and a special mention to Phil, Josie and Jill from Catholic Schools Broken Bay. Your support made all the difference!

We were honoured to welcome an esteemed panel of judges, including two TAFE NSW head chefs – Shantel Elliott and Kurt Sonneman, Bishop Anthony, and Director of Schools Danny Casey, who praised the creativity and talent on display from all schools involved. We thank you all for your presence and expertise.

This is a testament to the high standards of Vocational Education and Training in Catholic Schools Broken Bay!
