The St Peter’s Under 15 Boys AFL team had a fantastic day at the recent AFL Junior Boys Schools Cup held at the Central Coast Regional Sporting and Recreation Complex in Tuggerah. From the day’s outset, the boys were buzzing with energy and excitement to get on the field.
In their first two games, they dominated Erina High School (52-0) and Green Point Christian College (58-1). Even a 90-minute break couldn’t break their rhythm and focus. A remarkable 110 points scored and just one behind surrendered as a result of their impressive teamwork!
The third game against powerhouse Tuggerah Lakes was a fierce battle. Both teams traded blows, with the midfield as the battleground. St Peter’s back 50 held strong in the first half, but Tuggerah Lakes pulled away in the second half, winning 38-7. Our boys gave the Tuggerah Lakes a run for their money, showcasing heart and effort.
In the final match against rivals St Edwards, St Peter’s took an early lead and never let their foot off the accelerator from that point on. They blended competitiveness and fun, switching positions at halftime giving everyone on the team the opportunity to contribute in ways they hadn’t otherwise done during the day. St Peter’s went out on a high, defeating St Edwards 39-12.
Despite not advancing, St Peter’s finished second overall, displaying sportsmanship and mateship. The boys should be proud of the way they represented themselves and their school and will look to be a team that will be full of promise and potential in the coming years.
