Our Open Boys Basketball Team recently participated in the Broken Bay Basketball Championships.
In their opening game against Mater Maria, the team faced a tough battle, ultimately emerging victorious with a score of 34-23. Fynn M’s clutch play in the final seconds, including a contested layup and converting the extra point, sealed the win. Riley B also made significant contributions with two crucial three-pointers and active play on the boards.
Despite a setback in the following game against St Edward’s, where they faced physical challenges and communication issues, the team remained competitive, keeping the game close until halftime. This loss served as a learning experience, highlighting the importance of effective communication on the court.
The team bounced back with determination in their next game against MacKillop, securing a 32-25 victory. Andrew B’s exceptional performance in the second half played a pivotal role in overcoming adversity and leading the team to success.
Challenges continued in subsequent games against St Leo’s and St Paul’s, where the team faced adversity and tough calls. However, their resilience was evident as they fought hard until the final moments, with players like Deegan H and Fynn M showcasing late-game heroics that nearly led to comeback victories.
The team’s perseverance and dedication paid off in their final game against St Brigid’s, where teamwork and effective communication were emphasized. Despite fatigue from a long day of games, the team pulled together, securing a well-deserved 31-25 win.
Reflecting on the overall performance, the team finished with a 3-3 record, showcasing growth and unity on and off the court. Coach Mr Scott commended the players for their representation of the college and their unwavering support for each other throughout the tournament. Well done boys!
