The future is green with St Peter’s students immersing themselves in sustainable ideas at University of Newcastle, Central Coast last week. Selected students from Year 7 to 12 attended an enjoyable day of learning and gathering ideas from stall holders at the inaugural Sustainable Futures Festival.
Students participated in a wide variety of hands on and engaging activities, learning about upcycling, how raingardens work to slow stormwater and reduce run off and pollution in our waterways, the kerbside collection program ‘Kurby’, and how our waste plastics can be cleaned for recycling by superworms and sawfly larva to minimise water in the recycling process.
They also learned about the Central Coast Council’s program to save the endangered bird, Little Tern, who migrate from South-East Asia to breed each year at the Entrance.
Inspired by all the programs, initiatives and displays the students are working on ideas to implement here at St Peter’s to improve our student’s environmental engagement, minimise waste and keep our school protected and well presented. Keep posted for more information about fun events and positive environmental changes.
