Our lucky Year 11 Earth and Environmental Science and Marine Studies students recently explored Lady Elliot Island, nestled in the pristine waters of the Great Barrier Reef.
They immersed themselves in hands-on learning, discovering rich biodiversity, coral reef ecosystems, and sustainable practices. Highlights included collaborating with marine biologists as part of the “Be a Marine Biologist For the Day Program” and close encounters with marine life including Green Turtles, Black and White Tip Reef Sharks, Eagle Rays, Clown Fish, and even a Tiger Shark! This immersive experience provided students with practical research skills and left a lasting impression on all participants.
As the students and staff reflect on this enriching excursion, they are reminded of the profound impact of experiential learning and the importance of nurturing a deep appreciation for our planet’s precious ecosystems. The memories and knowledge gained from their time on Lady Elliot Island will undoubtedly inspire future generations of environmental stewards.
