St Peter’s students were Field Geographers for the day – and now you can be one too!
Our Year 10 Geographers embarked on an exciting adventure at the Central Coast Wetlands – Pioneer Dairy during the first week of this term. They studied environmental management at this crown land reserve, exploring wetlands restored by the Central Coast Wetland Trust through 20 years of planning and planting. In collaboration with the Central Coast Council, efforts are ongoing to rejuvenate the land, which had been cleared and used as a dairy farm for over a century.
Students explored the changes evolving in this environment by conducting various field tests and geographic investigations, including soil pH and texture analysis, six water quality tests with Waterwatch personnel, and biodiversity surveys of plants, water bugs, and wetland birds. A big thank you to our dedicated geography staff, expert ecologist Jed Field, Trust volunteer coordinator Vanessa, and Waterwatch expert Rachael Kneeves for sharing their knowledge and enriching this experience.
This weekend the Central Coast Wetlands, located just around the corner from our school, are holding a special event for National Tree Day. We encourage all our families to be a part of this important initiative – this public event is a great opportunity to enjoy a BBQ and plant a tree in celebration of National Tree Day.
