The Cross Campus Year 11 Japanese class recently had the unique opportunity to experience a traditional ikebana (Japanese flower arranging) demonstration led by Sullivan Sensei at the Japan Camp Assessment Day. With a calm and mindful approach, Sullivan Sensei introduced the class to the elegant art form, highlighting its deep connection to nature and zen philosophy. The students were captivated by the peaceful and meditative nature of the practice.
Remarkably, after just one lesson, each student created their own beautiful arrangement, reflecting both creativity and an appreciation for Japanese aesthetics. It was a truly inspiring and enriching experience that brought Japanese culture to life in a hands-on and memorable way.
In addition to exploring traditional culture, the Year 11 Japanese students have recently completed their Reading and Speaking assessments, demonstrating their growing confidence and skills in the language. These tasks provided a valuable opportunity to practise using Japanese in realistic contexts, and the students should be proud of their progress. The class has now begun their introduction to the HSC course, setting clear goals and reflecting on the skills they’ll need to succeed in Year 12. With a strong foundation and a positive mindset, the students are well-prepared for the exciting challenges ahead.
