This morning we celebrated our opening of NAIDOC week with a special assembly. We were blessed to have 2 special guests for our assembly which was lead by our students Zoe, Lailani, Taya and Sienna-Mae.
Dr Leanne Holt is the Pro Vice Chancellor for Indigenous Strategy at Macquarie University. Leanne’s wisdom and insight inspired us all to consider how we can call to action for this years NAIDOC theme Stand Up! Show up!
Our Aboriginal students were involved in a badge ceremony to show their pride in their culture and heritage as they were presented to Dr Holt. Uncle Tim Selwyn from Girri Girra shared with us a small part of his vast knowledge for cultural protocol. We were fortunate enough to have Uncle Tim share some sacred songs and to lead us in a Smoking Ceremony.
