As part of National Reconciliation Week, we commemorated and acknowledged Sorry Day through joining together for a liturgy. This ceremony honoured our oldest living culture as we prepared our Sacred space with significant traditional artifacts. These serve as reminders of the heritage of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders – the traditional custodians of our land.
Our Aboriginal students proudly showcased their culture by presenting the colours of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags, along with traditional items such as clap sticks, didgeridoos, a coolamon, a cross, and soil from the grounds of St Peter’s, representing the sacred connection to the land where we learn.
It was lovely to hear Mrs McVeigh speak so compassionately about what Sorry Day means to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and express such sorrow for the past. This was followed by a beautiful reading by Mr Lawicki and reflection by Mrs Little.
