We’re thrilled to announce that St Peter’s Catholic College has been selected as one of two schools in the nation to run and develop the NRL RISE Schools Pilot Program. This specialised rugby league program has already kicked off for 2024 for both Years 7 and 8 with over 100 students – both male and female – participating across both year groups! We’re also excited to expand the program further, continuing into Year 9 and 10 in 2025 as an elective subject.
This groundbreaking program takes place during the school day, and focuses on 4 components to elevate rugby league performance across all facets of the sport including;
1. Technical and Tactical Skills Development: During Terms 2 & 3, students will receive specialised training to enhance their rugby league skills, including passing, tackling, kicking, and game strategies. They will also receive the opportunity to develop their skills in skill transferable sports in Terms 1 & 4.
2. Strength and Conditioning: The program incorporates a comprehensive strength and conditioning component designed to improve student’s athleticism, physical fitness, and injury resilience.
3. Life Skills and Personal Development: Beyond the rugby league field, students will participate in sessions focused on building essential life skills such as resilience, teamwork, leadership, and decision-making through the participation of the Life-Fit Program in conjunction with Griffith University.
4. Mentorship and Support: Throughout the program, students will have access to experienced coaches and mentors who will provide guidance, support, and encouragement to help them reach their full potential both as athletes and individuals.
In addition to these invaluable skills, all students that participate have the opportunity to gain Refereeing, League Safe and Rugby League Coaching Certification.
