Our Year 11 Legal Studies students recently had the pleasure of hosting the Hon. Emma McBride MP – Federal Member for Dobell, Assistant Minister for Mental Health and Suicide Prevention and Assistant Minister for Rural and Regional Health.
Emma outlined the law-making process and provided insight into her role as Assistant Minister for Health. She shared her experience as the Australian delegate at the recent UN Commission on Narcotics in Vienna. It was interesting to hear that Australia is held in high regard for issues that impact health, as we led the move to plain package tobacco products and are again leading initiatives to deal with the impact of vaping.
Students were able to contribute their ideas around proposed new laws concerning vapes and raised other issues including the housing crisis. We appreciate the time Emma gave to the class, which provided the students an invaluable insight into the law-making process.
