Winter has arrived! It was a chilly start to our day on June 4th for the Stage 5 Visual Arts students. We boarded the coach with excitement, ready to travel to the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney, for a day of art culture. The students immersed themselves in the Art Gallery’s historic Naala Nura Building and new Naala Badu Building, visiting the 20th-century galleries and the contemporary exhibitions, showcasing works from both Australian and international artists. For some of our students, this is the first time that they have experienced an Art Gallery, and the excursion was a fantastic opportunity for all our students to experience original artworks and appreciate the incredible spaces in which they are exhibited. The students were asked to constructively evaluate the arrangement/ placement of artworks by the curators, how mood is created through the use of lighting and surroundings, and observe audience engagement within the gallery spaces. They also collected information and visual imagery of their favourite 2-Dimensional and 3-Dimensional artworks for their upcoming Assessment Task for Critical and Historical Studies.
Unfortunately, the day passed by too quickly, and it was time to board the bus back to school. We would like to thank our students for their exemplary behaviour and for representing our college so well.
