Our Stage 5 Japanese students enthusiastically immersed themselves in the art of Japanese mask papier-mâché, finding great joy and fulfilment in the creative process. With eager hands, they carefully layered strips of paper, meticulously crafting the intricate details of each mask. The therapeutic nature of papier-mâché allowed them to express their creativity while also experiencing a meditative state.
As the students engaged in their creative work, an atmosphere of camaraderie and connection filled the air. As they laughed, exchanged ideas, and provided feedback on their creative endeavours, the students not only deepened their friendships but also enhanced their collaborative skills, fostering a positive and nurturing environment for their artistic pursuits.
Did you know – Japanese masks are an integral part of the country’s rich cultural heritage, often used in traditional performances, festivals, and rituals. They come in a variety of styles and designs, each with its own significance and symbolism. These masks not only serve as artistic expressions but also embody cultural traditions, storytelling, and spiritual beliefs, adding depth and intrigue to Japan’s vibrant mask-making tradition.
We are almost at the painting stage….and the masks will soon be a vision of Japanese and individualistic representation.
