On November 28th, Mr. Sanchez, Mr. Scott, and 19 students experienced a memorable day at the University of Sydney during the Mega Maths Day, filled with learning and excitement. The day began with Decisions of the Decade, a thought-provoking probability game that taught students about the effects of climate change on resource management through a flooding simulation.
The adventure continued with Counting Creepy Crawlies, where students donned lab coats to explore biodiversity. They examined invertebrates under microscopes, learning to catalogue and analyse ecosystem diversity.
In the final workshop, How to Estimate Anything, students learned the art of estimation, and applying it to various real-world scenarios. The workshop concluded with a fun twist: a jelly bean guessing competition. Amen Sarwary showcased his newfound estimating skills and won the contest, earning a small jar of jelly beans as his prize!
This educational journey was not just about mathematics, but about applying it creatively in real life, igniting curiosity and understanding in our young learners.
