We had an amazing day in Sydney with our Senior Visual Arts students travelling by train to see the Artexpress Exhibition at the Art Gallery of NSW and the incredible exhibition of Do Ho Suh’s work at the Museum of Contemporary Art. This was a new experience for quite a few of our students and a wonderful opportunity to view examples of outstanding HSC artworks created by students in 2022. The Artexpress curators, selected and showcased a wide variety of expressive art forms including painting, sculpture, ceramics and digital media, that explored concepts of nature, COVID, isolation, identity, family, and sense of place. Students were able to photograph the artworks to help them to resolve their ideas and choice of materials for their own HSC Body of Work.
Our visit to the Museum of Contemporary Art highlighted our day as we entered huge gallery spaces displaying life size installation artworks of stairways, rooms and domestic items constructed and stitched from sheer fabric and wire with every intricate detail included. We also walked over a vast glass floor help up by thousands of tiny sculptured figures and we were mesmerised by the structure of an entire traditional Korean home constructed of paper rubbings. It was incredible.
Thank you to Ms Robilliard for joining us and assisting with head counting and meeting the desired lunch choices of our students. It was a great day.
